(Editorial, Oct 11, 2009)
At the start it appeared that this election was an issue based politics but as polling day gets nearer, the fight seems merely to win no matter what means are adopted. It has been rightly said, 'everything is fair in love, war and politics'. While Laeta Umbrey struggles to retain his chair on the strength of youth’s idealistic ambitions, Mr and Mrs Mithi seems wanting to regain their lost glory. The political activists loyal to Umbrey have now resorted to an aggressive propaganda by shrewdly adopting the non-conventional method all with the intention of grievously damaging Mith’s image. It is rightly said, ‘You hate a person because you don’t know him and you will never know him because you hate him’. Pity those young people who see in Umbrey a ray of hope in their pursuit to their idealistic goal for ‘a change we can believe in’. For these youths, hurting Mithi’s career is not their objective but going by the intensity of personal attacks directed against Mithi, the fight now seems more like a personal clash between two elite groups of Idu Mishmi community. Settling personal scores have become the main objective of the campaign which is being surreptitiously done under the guise of ‘change’. The bitter truth however is that the same non-conventional tactic was successfully attempted against Dature Miuli intending to hurt his image during the by-election of 2006. However Miuli had been gracious enough to declare, ‘yesterdays rival is today’s friend’.
If Mithi is being blamed for bowing before Nagas in compromising the territorial integrity of the state, then how does one explain his daring statement of ‘there are no Nagas in Arunachal’ made during his tenure as CM. Can any politician in Arunachal today reiterate what Mithi said six years back? This audacious and powerful statement strongly defied the Naga’s logic of their ancestral domain in the eastern districts of Arunachal. It was only after Mithi’s ouster that the state govt gave a go ahead for autonomous council status to Tirap and Changlang district which was ostensibly done to appease the Naga insurgents. Also the controversial APCOCA and the operation ‘Hurricane’ launched during Mithi’s regime to flush out insurgents from Tirap and Changlang district were also withdrawn. Therefore it is the collective responsibility of all our representatives for the historic blunder and every politician today owes explanation to their people.
The personal attack being leveled against Mithi is a sign of a frantic attempt in trying to win people’s confidence in making them believe as their fight against bad by the goodies. But such act needs introspection. If Mithi was so bad, why Umbrey agreed for an alliance with him? Trying to depict Mithi in a bad shape after having failed alliance will only be seen as a sign of hypocrisy. Also Umbrey need to introspect why waves of support shifted to Mithi. In his two years as MLA, he always looked for an alliance with Mithi thereby defeating the very purpose of having a bipolar politics in Roing for which the people had supported him. Also the youths at that time who were at the forefront of anti dam movement suspected such alliance was intended to corner them and to crush the indigenous rights movement. The greatest blunder however was the grand announcement of alliance made over panchayat election 2008, thereby Umbrey losing many of his avid supporters to Mithi. By now, to many people it was a feeling that Umbrey simply didn’t have the nerves to withstand Mithi’s power.
However Umbrey could not be easily underestimated. Over the year he worked hard and broke the old traditional style of ascendancy. Mithi had produced elites through which he laid control over the citizens hierarchically. Umbrey breaking the old practice reached out directly to lowly and vulnerable and hence came to be known as a ‘Friend of poor’. This was a brilliant approach that was earlier successfully attempted by Tezu MLA Karikho Kri against former MLA Nakul Chai that led him to a glorious victory. However this time it’s not Mr Mithi, its Mrs Mithi who is well acquainted with the Kri style.
Now comparing both in terms of development, Mithi has his own share of contribution in giving the people adequate political space to grow and in developing the kind of infrastructures which otherwise requires great flair for articulation in mobilizing funds. Khandu today might be looked upon as dear leader for dolling out money lavishly but in distress he looks upon Mithi as saviour. Yet as a setback to Mithi, to a common man’s wisdom, the accomplishments and the personal acumen he developed in his 23 years of rule seems to get outshined by Umbrey’s rapid achievements made in his short duration of just 2 ½ years. Although it was the good fate that clicked well with Umbrey since during his tenure the state’s financial resources had grown considerably compared to previous terms. Nevertheless Umbrey’s judicious use of funds and his strong commitment to development is being greatly appreciated and that is the major factor for his growing popularity.
No matter the hostility and the personal attacks, no matter the rhetoric of personal accomplishments and plans for future but it’s the common people that are being victimized in this political gambit. God knows people might one day be a mute spectator to Umbrey and Mithi hugging each other passionately, for politics is about one’s own permanent interest.
Our Mission
We believe our state can develop meaningfully only when the citizens are well informed and aware about their rights.

Great piece of news and commentary... can yo confirme the genuiness of the alleged documents about 'Mithi' being circulated by Laeta Umbrey's camp on 'Naga' issue.
Congratulations and my best compliments for this pioneering efforts.

NB: keep me posted at jarpum@yahoo.com
this is an interesting piece of news...
I fail to understand "why Mr.Mithi wants to work now for roing people on behalf of Pomoya Mena?"He had two decades in his hand, was that insufficient? If he wished, than he could have done anything, but wheres the development that marks Mr.Mithi? Now that Veracity becoming Pro Congress(might be paid)publishing such unwanted stuffs.Being the citizen of roing I would appriciate Mr.Raju Mimi staying away from publishing such stuffs. We aren't blink. We can see whats going on around. We would like to read something good. Not this kind of stuffs that will divide the sociaty further.Already there are peole in Roing who have stoped reading your paper because of such articles.some day people might call Veracity as "Voice of CONGRESS..."
really i felt like i was reading some kind of justification letter from Mr. Mithi, not the news...
just for public sympathy.aah-khir Roing ka celebrety hai wo
why such an appealling news? One leader being criticed so badly and appealling votes for other one!veracity should publish good articles rather than publishing unwanted political nus.actually its one sided nus.If mr.raju is so interested in political nus than he should publish yesterday's laeta umbreys speech too.
neway I was wondering which site did I reach!is this site own by an indian national congress or my mr.mithi himself?
Great insights on the political upheaval of Roing. But on a sincere note, this article certainly seemed Umbrey bashing. I believe, this election specifically would go on to be marked as one of the most intensely fought election with equal participation from all the quarters of our lives. I pray, whoever gets elected will go on to work diligently for the development of our society much unlike the bunch of clowns that we see ruling Arunachal in Itanagar. I hope they would restrain from bringing in the circus rhetorics of Itanagar to our Roing, which for years has been deprived of the developments that were confined to corridors of our ever growing capital. It's time we differentiate ourselves!
i think public of Roing should be thankful to youths who are supporting the Laeta umbrey.. bcoz from here it looks like whoever wins they will work for the public... at least to be in power in near future also.......
really, youths are doing great this time and I expect some development at least this time.and I do feel this site will have better news displayed, not like this one.I wish laeta wins this election and give us a better leadership.whatever he has shown in last three years is better than shown by apiya mukut in last 20 years.
Great information apiya. But i am against both
the candidate. If Umbrey wanted he could have develop his constituency but he didn't.there are basic infrastructure problem like electricity problem, there r potholes in the roads even after the center has allocated near bout 1500crore fund for the development of our state.as in case of Mrs Mithi if she want to do something she could have it long time ago but she didn't.Both of them are nothing more than a demagouge.
Mr Editor, i think u have sent a wrong signal with this article.
Anyways....what is wrong in criticizing Mr Mithi's tenure....its a known fact he did almost nought for Roing in 2 decades. You concur?....I think Mr Lata's camp is doing what they sud do..ie expose Mithi and show off Laeta's works..and now if the Mithi camp has nothing to claim with pride, they also don't get my empathy however bad the criticism is showered on them.....
Our Editor should give up Veracity and start a paper on Dibang Valley National Congress party.Time pass news.
If Mr.Mithi had wrote this article it would have been okay.but Raju, the Editor wrote it. Explain us what you plain to prove with this article?
1.Laeta is doing well because he married Mithi's sister as Mr.Mithi said?
2.Mr.Mithi doing well because his great parents were Digaru Mishi rather than Idu mishmi?
3.Congress trying to replicate Lalu Yado and Rabri Devi?
OR
The Editor trying to promote this site with this type of articles?
What the Editor expecting from Mrs.Mithi when Mr.Mithi could do nothing in two decades and he devoted his Chief Ministership tenure trying to impress his daughter in laws.
it's like gegong Apang complaining of bad roads now...all these years he n his family had the pawan hans service as their own private limousine n now that he is (almost a commoner) he says he can do better than the present people! mithis have made enough for 3 lifetimes, let others grow.
An absolute biased article even though the author tries to balance it a little bit towards the end the damage is already done.If you are implying that this is the first time Politics has gone bad, then you are living in some kind of bubble because it never is. The reason why the ugly side was not that apparent was due to the fact that the competition has never been this steep. It is indeed unfortunate that people tend to personal mudslinging/attacks when it should be about the development of the district/state and the people. However sad the situation is , it is not first or the last time it is going to happen. All we can hope is ... may the winner brings some good( not goods ) to the people.
Its very unfortunate tat publics, govt. staffs n commercial residers of L/Dibang Valley r getting new esperience through so called Assembly Election, spcally, senior local citizens of roing get very easiest way to earn money fr.d candidates....And a MLA candidate should be crorepati to contest at roing in near future...if such...think bout the right n capable leader of our community...and hw could a capable leader could emerge ..as he may no financially sound enough ? Did Mr. Umbrey will stood here only for development, after spending public's crores of amount in election to retain his chair...? He has no time to repay his sponsors somehow...Can we think a better developments ? Our expectations r lying there only in localities, nor Mithi r Umbrey can give or prove us for the better quantities. They all r stood for their own image n ego.
Such A shame...Media a Sham.
WHY?? WHAT?? WHERE?? WHATS IS ALL THIS ABOUT?? WHO ARE YOU GUYS TALKING OF?? B-O-R-I-N-G !!!!!
WE ARE DESTINED TO EAT GRASS FOR A LIFETIME SO EAT GRASS AND BE MERRY(YOU CAN SMOKE THEM UP TOO)AS FOR THE INTELECTUALS(IF AT ALL THEY REALLY ARE)WRITE NURSERY RHYMES FOR YOUR COMING GENERATIONS ATLEAST YOUR OFSPRINGS WOULD BE IN THE LINE OF LITERACY...AS FOR POLITICS LET THE FOOLS WHO WE ALL HAVE VOTED TO POWER DECIDE... WE ARE THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER COMMODITY WHOSE VALUE FLUCTUATES EVERY 5 YEARS. POLITICS IN OUR STATE IS SIMILAR TO PROSTITUTION. ALL THE VOTERS CAN BE BOUGHT AND SOLD FOR A PERIOD OF 5 YEARS.
- A POLITICAL PROSTITUTE.
