District administration draws up plan to harness tourism potential

ROING, Dec 8: The first ever District Level Tourism Development Committee (DLTDC) meeting of Lower Dibang Valley District was held in office chamber of Deputy Commissioner of the district here today.
            Y W Ringu, DC cum Chairman DLTDC of the district called upon the tourism officials to gear up with the need of the hour as district has got vast tourism potentials. She also asked them to submit monthly report of domestic and foreign tourist visiting the district and take up new schemes under Rural tourism, Eco tourism, tourism based on heritage, culture and nature for maximum inflow of tourist in the district.
            Laeta Umbrey, MLA Roing participating in the meeting as a representative of Registered Tour Operator of the district has called for developing proper strategy to attract more domestic and foreign tourist in the district. Citing that the shortage of proper accommodation and sub standard lodging facilities available for the tourist are the main drawbacks that deter tourist inflow in the district. As the tour operators of the district solely depend on the govt. for tourist accommodation, he requested the authority concern to make the defunct Tourist Lodge at Sally Lake, 3km from Roing functional and also to improve the condition of Coffee House and Forest IB at Mayudia for tourist lodge. He also called upon the tourism officials to conduct tourism awareness campaign in the district so that the common masses, tourist guide, hoteliers and taxi driver become friendly and cordials in dealing with the tourist. Saying that it is the memory and behavior of the local people that the tourists carry backs with them, Umbrey called for showing more hospitality to the visitors when they come to see our place and encourage them to visit us with more friends and relatives which in turn will benefit us economically as tourism is the fastest growing industry in the world with maximum employment generation, he said.
            Er M K Debariyal, EE (WRD) informed the house that a Tourist Complex at Baro Golai, at around 69km from Roing near Mayudia Pass are under construction with a Multipurpose Hall and Four Cottage. Staging Hut along with Meseum at Yapgo village, Dambuk and Tourist Lodge at Jia village near Hot Spring are also under construction.
            Er Subath Pertin, EE (PHED) suggested for provision of Rain Water Harvesting System in the building meant for tourist.
            Earlier, K. Pertin, District Tourism Officer cum Member Secretary, DLTDC highlighting the main aims and objectives of the meeting has informed that 33 persons of Foreign Tourist visited the district in the month of November 2009 and every month around 1000 domestic tourist visit the district.
            It is also to mention here that the Lower Dibang Valley district has got vast tourism potential. Apart from scenic beauty of snow clad mountains along with river view side there is vast scope for adventure tourism like angling, river rafting and mountaineering besides visit to Heritage Sites like Bhismak Nagar and Abhor-British War Memorial at Yapgo Village, Dambuk and a warm dipping during chilling winter in the much talk about Hot Spring at Jia Village, 13 km from Roing.

lets hope at least this time badly degraded poor Bhismaknagar 'll be redeemed after years by the authorities.
